Slow blogging this week, obviously. And no damn toons, nuther.
I got back from the ALA Conference in Anaheim on Tuesday and have been pretty busy since then catching up with my normal life.
Then - WHAM! - it's the 4th of July. Drop everything! Eat greasy food! Dodge fireworks! Ride a big blue train with a face on it! Get a sunburn! Roll the American flag into a giant wad and shove it up your ass! Love your country or die, commie terrorist blasphemer! Drink too much beer! Imagine Jesus all buff and oily, massaging your toes! Just cuz! Don't question anything! Take off your shoes before boarding a plane! Wear mouse ears with pride! Go to the mall! There's a sale! Fuck the planet!
All shall resume as normal next week. There will be cartoons. And thoughts on what I done learned from librarians more experienced than I.

What I wish I was wearing to the Casanova Masked Ball tomorrow. I'm not a ball gown kinda gal. I've seen these harem trousers in high street shops and I thought how is anyone really supposed to wear these without looking like they are either wearing a diaper or going to Burning Man? Or both? And then I thought they would be great if you treated them like an Isabelle Eberhardt or glam Anne Bonny affair.

12:57p any suggestions for a dying iBook?
My ancient (G3) iBook needs more work than it's probably worth, so I don't want to take it in for service or put it on eBay, but I hate to send it straight to recycling. I think it has motherboard problems, and I know the lid is a bit askew, but it might be useful to someone. Suggestions?

These figures were produced by the Unite union to disprove the idea that profits for Irish capitalists are somehow 'too low' or being squeezed by unjustifiably higher wages. Actually, it suggests an extraordinary rate of exploitation. According to the Industrial Development Agency [pdf], the average wage in Ireland was 627.24 euros per week in 2007, which is just over 32,000 euros per year.
