Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Dear 6Apart, and/or LiveJournal--
I did not ask for Snap Shot (TM) previews on every link on my Friends page. I did not ask for Snap Shot (TM) previews on every link on my Friends page because I do not want Snap Shot (TM) previews on every link on my Friends page. Snap Shot (TM) previews are one of those things whose appeal I've never understood; they're slow, they're very slow, they're buggy, and they mask the terribly handy link preview text down in the lower left corner of the browser.

Also, they're slow.

How do I make the Snap Shot (TM) previews on every link on my Friends page go away?

Thanking you in advance.

PS: They're on my main page, too. --Is there a switch somewhere I'm missing where I can turn them off? Because I can't seem to find one, nor any mention of Snap Shot (TM) previews being applied as an unwanted default to every link in LiveJournal on any of the various design and update communities I can find. Of course, the various design and update communities I can find don't appear to have Snap Shot (TM) previews on every link. So there must be a simple way to turn them off. Right? Right?

There's an explanation about how to disable them here: http://news.livejournal.com/103674.html

Are you sure about that?

They only seem to point you to a checkbox to "Enable graphic previews on external links within your journal" -- which is unchecked.

Apparently this is the true answer. Sheesh, talk about making opt-out difficult!

Hmm. Mine worked fine. But with the hints pointed out below, I can turn it off ALL OVER. Brilliant.

It worked fine as far as making it not show up within my own journal, and my friends I believe did same, but yeah, I just ended up disabling it via their settings.

Still, irritating development.

If you click on the little gear that pops up in your Snap Shot (TM) preview window, you can configure (and disable!) those horrible little things.

Thanks, Vera. Stupid LiveJournal.

Several people have mentioned these things, but I'm clueless as to what they look like. I am guessing that either Opera or it's pop-up blocker is keeping me from ever noticing this feature. I'm definitely quite pleased with this fact.

Looks like you have a paid account, and paid accounts didn't have it turned on by default. You'd have to have activated them manually.

(Odd, that, since they claimed they were turning them on due to "positive response.")

Annoying the unpaid users with supposedly nifty new features that are less accessible to paid users seems a very odd policy indeed.

Briefly I entertained the notion of enabling them, but then recalled the pain, horror and trauma their usage on other sites had inflicted upon me. I was excruciating. Several hours laid up in bed with an icepack on my forehead as Mahler droned on the stereo. Hug me, teddy. Come to daddy.
